NEWS UPDATE: Adebayo Faleti died after morning prayer, says son

Celebrated actor and playwright, Adebayo Faleti, is dead. He died on Sunday in his home in Ibadan at the age of 86 due to old age.

One of Faleti’s son, Adeniyi, told one of our correspondents that he was helping his father with his bath when he died.

According to him, his father observed the early morning devotion with his family members and soon after told them that he had prayed to God to send someone else to continue his mission as he was tired and longing for home.

Adebayo Faleti: Pillar of culture takes a bow

He also said that he asked for hot pap, which he took before his death.

Adeniyi said, “After the morning devotion, I helped him to the bathroom as I normally did. He said he wanted God to send someone else to come and complete his work because he had done all he could do. He also said that he wanted to go home. Suddenly, I noticed that he was not breathing again. We took him to the University College Hospital, Ibadan where he was confirmed dead. We shall miss him greatly.”

Also, the first son of the former General Manager of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, Ayoola, said he spoke with his father three days ago and that he was on his way home when he was told that his father had passed on.

“In his usual practice, he called me three days ago and we discussed like father and son. After I received a call this morning from my brother concerning the state of his health, I hit the road to come home and see him but I did not meet him alive. He died before I could reach home. He took care of all his children and gave us good education. We shall all miss him,” said Ayoola.

One of the deceased’s wives, Moteniola, said she married him in the 50s, adding that he was a loving husband who was always concerned about the welfare of his family.

“I knew him as a loving husband and I will always remember how well he catered for the family. He prepared the children for a good future by ensuring that they had good education,” Moteniola said.

Another wife of the deceased, Olubunmi, could not speak to pressmen as she was sobbing uncontrollably.

But another son of the late actor, Gbemi, said that the family would remain grateful to God for granting their father a good life.

“He reached the peak of his career in life. As an actor, he was a celebrated artiste, as an administrator, he headed the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State and the Oyo State office of the defunct Mass Mobilisation for Self Reliance, Social Justice, and Economic Recovery.

“He fitted into every good role that a father and a friend could play. He was caring and loved by all. We are sad about his demise but we are grateful for a fulfilled life he lived. He is survived by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, that is a grace anyone should be thankful for,” Gbemi said.

Jare, another son of the deceased,  took to the Face book to mourn his father.

Jare, who studied English Language at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, wrote that he was in tears while typing the message. He described his late father as his most loved human being.

The film translator, who currently resides in the United States, regretted that he had earlier commented about the inevitability of death not knowing that his father would die soon.

“What a life! I wrote on Facebook two days ago about life being transient. I never knew death was at my own backyard already. You took my father away from me – Iku (death). I never knew this would be my last picture with you – Adebayo Faleti. #Tears. RIP to the man I love more than anything in the world. A giant has fallen,” he posted.

Jare had on Friday evening posted that “Nothing in life (including death) is permanent. The only permanent thing in life is death itself.”

Following his post, Jare’s friends including Nollywood actors and actresses, exalted the virtues of the deceased.

One of them, Aminat Afolabi, said, “A legend is gone to the great world. In all situations in life, we got to give glory to God.”

On his part, King Bolarinwa Asa, said, “The light that Baba has put in the land of humanity is sufficient for his descendants to walk in glory. May you journey toward a light.”

Another friend, Akindele Olamide, asked Jare not to be sad, saying, “Be happy, he (the deceased) lived a fulfilled life.”

Also, the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun has described Faleti’s death as sad.

The governor in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dayo Adeneye, on Sunday, stated that the deceased was “a zealous promoter of culture,” noting that his works would always be cherished.

Amosun said, “His role as one of the pioneers of the Western Nigeria Television (WNTV), the first television station in Africa and a consistent television personality, made him a pride to the broadcast industry.

“Baba Faleti, as a broadcaster, poet and writer targeted his energy at the promotion of culture and his death at this time is regrettable. His sound wisdom would have been valuable now that we are all battling to restore our fading traditional values.

“He will be missed by all Nigerians, especially broadcast and theatre practitioners, who regard him as a role model.”

He prayed God to grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss as his creative soul rest in peace.

Meanwhile, the  Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association has  expressed shock at Faleti’s death.

The group, in a statement in Osogbo on Sunday by its President, Mr. Olalekan Ahmed, described the deceased as an accomplished cultural icon.

Ahmed  said Faleti was an accomplished  writer and a cultural ambassador who lived a life of purpose and achieved a lot for himself and humanity.

The statement partly read, “Chief Faleti was an illustrious Yoruba son, a cultural icon and linguistic colossus, who studied English Language but later became a custodian of Yoruba culture with his unique idiosyncrasies.

“Chief Adebayo Faleti became a role model to many people in the broadcasting and socio-cultural professions. The legacies he left behind cannot be forgotten.

“We enjoin the entire Yoruba youths to follow in his footsteps to ensure preservation of our rich culture and values.”

Among the early callers at the deceased home were actor Dele Odule; Coordinator, Ibadan PlayHouse, Ropo Ewenla; veteran actor, Tunbosun Odunsi; and Prof. Duro Adeleke of the Department of Linguistics, University of Ibadan.

Jamaica beat Mexico to face USA in Gold Cup final

Jamaica are through to the final of the Gold Cup for the second time after knocking off Mexico in the 2017 semi-final on Sunday.

Mexico defeated Jamaica in the 2015 final.

New York Red Bulls defender Kemar Lawrence scored the game’s only goal in the 88th minute, making the most of Andre Blake’s man of the match goalkeeping performance which spanned the entirety of 90 minutes.

Blake put forth a stellar display of goalkeeping in the game’s first 45 minutes, facing three shots on target and denying El Tri’s attackers on each and every occasion.

The peak of the game came in the 12th minute, when the Philadelphia Union keeper pulled off a stunning double-save to deny Jesus Dueñas and Erick Torres.

In the second half, Jesus Gallardo fired a free kick through the Raggae Boyz’ wall, a knuckling shot which Blake didn’t see until very late but managed to put two fists behind the ball and punched it away.

Two minutes before full-time, Lawrence produced the only goal from a free kick taken from 24 yards out.

Jamaica will take on the U.S. national team in Wednesday’s final, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

Neymar is going nowhere, Pique assures Barca fans

Brazilian superstar striker Neymar will stay with Barcelona, according to teammate Gerard Pique, who posted a Twitter message on the striker’s status Sunday.

Spanish international defender Pique indicated the South American maestro would continue at Camp Nou by tweeting a photo of Neymar with the caption “He’s staying.”

The message came hours after Neymar gave Barcelona fans a dazzling reminder of what he brings, the talisman scoring twice as the Spanish giants defeated Juventus 2-1 in a pre-season friendly Saturday in New Jersey.

The 25-year-old Brazilian superstar is at the centre of frenzied speculation linking him to a world record 222-million-euro ($256.8 million) transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

French newspaper Le Parisien reported on its website late Sunday that the transfer of Neymar to PSG could be made official in the next few days.

And ESPN’s website reported, citing an unnamed source, that Neymar had no idea why Pique tweeted the photo and message. The report also said sources had Neymar wanting to move to the French club and agreeing to terms on a deal for at least four years.

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde swatted down talk of Neymar departing to France on Friday, dismissing “rumours” while saying the squad wants him to stay for years to come.

“This is a time of rumours. We understand it’s how it is,” Valverde said. “He is with us right now. One of us. It’s a player we love and we want. Not only football-wise but also for the things he brings to the locker room.

“It’s only rumours. There’s no need to worry about something we don’t know if it’s going to happen or not. If it happens in the future, we’ll see. But no need to worry about it now.”

Barcelona, with Neymar set to be in the lineup, play a pre-season friendly against Manchester United on Wednesday at Washington.

BREAKING NEWS: Court can’t stop me from speaking, says Nnamdi Kanu

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on Monday, granted an interview to some journalists in Enugu.

Kanu was in Enugu to receive awards from a number of pan-Igbo groups, including the Igbo Women Assembly, the Eastern Consultative Assembly and the Igbo Students Union.

Justice Binta Nyako had barred Kanu from granting interviews, and being in gatherings of more than 10 persons, when she granted the IPOB leader bail.

Asked if he was not worried that he could be re-arrested for flouting the bail conditions by granting the interview, Kanu said the court cannot stop him from speaking.

He said he was only responding to questions asked him by journalists.

According to him, refusing to respond to the questions would be seen as a sign of arrogance on his part.

He said, “I am replying you. That is what I am doing. I am not giving an interview, I am responding to the question you asked me.

“The judge is a very learned fellow. She cannot stop me from speaking.”

Kanu added that President Muhammadu Buhari and the Department of State Services were the ones that are guilty of flouting court orders.

“Buhari and the DSS have been in multiple breaches of court order after court order. I wish you can go to the DSS and ask Daura, what is his name? Lawal, whatever his name is, the DSS Director General, why DSS does not obey court orders.

“They are the ones flouting the court orders. It’s not me.

“What I am doing is entirely legal. You ask me a question and I respond to you because if I keep quiet you see me as a very arrogant fellow.”

Biafra: Yerima Shettima Reveals What Buhari Should Have Done to Nnamdi Kanu

The leader of Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, Yerima Shettima has said that the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is being influenced by hard drugs and as a result, behaves like a madman.

Shettima said his recent decision to force Igbos out of the Northern region of the country was reached solely because of activities and comments by the IPOB leader against Nigeria, the North and president Muhammadu Buhari.

The AYCF leader, who recently asked Igbos in the North to ignore the quit notice he earlier issued to them, told the Sun that Nnamdi Kanu was getting out of hands.

He said, “This man [Kanu] came from nowhere. He is never our class in struggles. I don’t know where he started his struggle, but he came out and within one year and suddenly because unfortunately the government made it easy for him to become popular; otherwise, Kanu is not an issue.”

Shettima said the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration made a big mistake when his governmnet arrested Nnamdi Kanu.

He further blamed, “The government to an extent; to have even in the first place arrested this man, somebody who is being influenced by drugs.

“Who is Kanu in the circle of struggles? So to me it is high time when somebody behaves like a mad man and you behave like a gentleman you realize that this gentleman is getting out of hand undermining everybody, abusing everybody.

“You cannot… I am proudly a northerner and that’s my identity. I cannot be a leader at my level and allow this man to be talking and abusing the sensibilities of my people and you expect me to fold my hands. As a leader of the youths, it’s impossible.

“We cannot fold our hands when after Jonathan government, no organization like IPOB came on board to abuse that government, now suddenly because we have a government of northern extraction under the leadership of Muhammadu Buhari we fold our hands and allow somebody to undermine that government and abuse the sensibility .We did everything, even MASSOB found it difficult to manage the young man the way he is going about it.

“A man who few years ago Ralph Uwazurike employed to work for him suddenly became a tiger and became a tool against the collective interest of the Igbo. Now, nobody can control him. Even the governors and the Eastern leaders this boy has succeeded in holding them to ransom. They are scared of talking for fear of attack from those jobless youths around him.

“Suddenly they folded their hands. And you expect us other Nigerians to fold our hands when somebody who has dual citizenship is trying to mess up the country?

“From UK to come and mess up the country? No, we’ll ensure that we protect the integrity of Nigeria to make sure that we remain together. No; this is unacceptable.

“My recent decision was borne out of frustration with this young man who goes around abusing my identity, my community, my people, undermining a country called Nigeria. I am a strong Nigerian, proudly a Nigerian.”

Germany will support united, prosperous Nigeria, says Ambassador

The German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Bernhard Schlagheck, says his country will support a more united and prosperous Nigeria devoid of wrangling.

Schlagheck spoke during an interactive session with the leadership of the Enugu State Chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, in Enugu on Monday.

The ambassador also said that the Federal Republic of Germany had confidence in Nigeria’s ability to deal decently with the call for the restructuring of the country for a more equitable nation.

He, therefore, advised all stakeholders to respect the constitution and territorial integrity of the country.

“We are very much interested in seeing a decent constitutional process and plead with all stakeholders to respect the Nigerian Constitution and territorial integrity.

“I am quite confident that the Nigerian people and their representatives in the parliament will take appropriate steps to make the restructuring process successful for the people of Nigeria.

“Let all stakeholders abide by the constitution and bring in what they have to say in the discussion process and make Nigeria better, prosperous and more successful.”

Schlagheck said that his country was concerned about the effects of the agitations in parts of the country on future elections.

Responding, Chief Chiedozie Ogbonnia, the President of the state chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo, said that the agitations from the South-East arose out of the feeling of marginalisation.

Ogbonnia said that the main purpose for the agitation was to secure a better condition for the people of the area in a united Nigeria.

He said that the clamour for the restructuring of the country had become a national discourse and imperative to give all sections of the country equal sense of belonging.

According to him, it is the hope of all Nigerians that all issues relating to the restructuring of the country are sorted out before the 2019 general elections.

Ogbonnia said that the zone was working with other regions of the country to ensure a process that would keep intact the unity of the country.

He said that the current administration at the Federal level was a product of the yearnings for change by Nigerians, adding that much needed to be done to keep the people together.

“The type of federation we run in Nigeria is not like others elsewhere in the world. We have to do away with the feelings of injustice in the country,” Ogbonnia said.

Ijaw youths issue multinational oil companies 90 days ultimatum to relocate to Niger Delta

The Ijaw Youth Council World-Wide today handed down multinational oil companies ninety days ultimatum to comply with presidential directive to relocate their headquarters to the Niger Delta region, stressing that, ”failure to heed to this ultimatum will have dire consequences.”

The IYC handed down the ultimatum today during a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel.

IYC President, Mr. Oweilaemi Rolland Pereotubor claimed that monies that are supposed to accrue to the Niger Delta States and their people have been paid to Lagos States thus boosting their Internally Generated Revenues, IGR.

Pereotubor noted that multinational oil companies have not complied with the presidential directive handed down by the Acting President, Yemi Osinbanjo in one of its visits to the Niger Delta region till date because,” there is no visible attempts by the presidency to enforce the order.”

He noted that the relocation of multinational oil companies will not only boost the revenue base of the Niger Delta but will reduce youth restiveness in the region.

Buhari: Photo showing Oyegun, Governors fake, taken in Abuja long ago – Fani-Kayode

“After series of meetings, the IYC has resolved that as long as the Ijaw Nation still remains part of Nigeria, the oil companies MUST comply with the presidential order by relocating their headquarters to their operational bases in the Niger Delta within 90 days(three months) beginning from the 12th day of July 2017. We do not wish to
reiterate that failure to heed this ultimatum will have dire consequences.”

According to Pereotubor, ”Perhaps, Prof. Osinbanjo was only trying to
play to the gallery politically.”

“ We saw this in the parliamentary rascality exhibited by Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila on the floor of the House of Representatives when the matter came up some weeks ago. If the
Acting President merely played politics with the issue, we say it is too late because he has stirred the hornet’s nest.”

The IYC also warned that should Shell Development Company, SPDC that he
claimed had perfected plans to move from the region do so, “they should not be seen in the region doing any form of business.”

“They should move permanently and leave the environment for the people
and others willing to do business in the area. Shell should not be the device used by the Nigerian Government to play on the intelligence of the indigenous people. It will be quite unpalatable for them.”

Police kill two bombers in failed attack on IDP camp

The Police in Borno on Monday said two Boko Haram suicide bombers were killed in a failed attempt to attack displaced persons’ camps and University of Maiduguri.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Victor Isuku, said the suicide bombers were killed by security operatives before they hit their targets.

“On Sunday at about 21:15hrs, a suspected female Boko Haram terrorist took advantage of the darkness of the night and attempted to gain access into Dalori 2 IDPs camp through the rear perimeter fence.

“Fortunately, she was sighted by vigilant security personnel on duty and chased.

“In an attempt to escape arrest, she hurriedly detonated the IED strapped to her body, killing herself alone.

“The impact of the explosion destroyed a portion of the IDP camp’s fence.

“In the early hours of today (Monday) at about 04:00hrs, a male suicide bomber attempted to gain entry into the premises of University of Maiduguri.

“On sighting the presence of security personnel deployed to the university on duty, he hurriedly detonated his IED, killing himself alone near the BOT building,” Isuku said in the statement.

The National Emergency Management Agency had, earlier, confirmed that two suicide bombers attacked Dalori 1 and 2 IDPs camps in Maiduguri.

In a statement issued to newsmen, the agency said four displaced persons were killed and 15 others wounded in the attack.

It said that a male suicide bomber infiltrated the Dalori 1 camp and detonated the explosive strapped to his body and killed four persons.

“Two persons died on the spot, while two others died at the hospital,” it said; adding that 15 others sustained injuries in the attack.

The statement added that a female suicide bomber was shot by security men when she attempted to cross the perimeter fence at Dalori 2 camp.

Shock as Man and His Lover are Found Dead Inside a Graveyard...You Won't Believe How It Happened

A man and his lover have been found stone dead inside a S' African graveyard, sparking serious commotion in the area.

Police officers at the scene of the incident
An angry South African man recently turned up at his lover’s workplace and he grabbed her, fired shots in the air and dragged her to his car at gunpoint before speeding off.

According to Daily Sun SA, police officers immediately began a manhunt, hoping to save the woman’s life, but they turned up empty-handed after the first day’s search.

The next morning they did not have to go far, because the woman and her lover were both found dead – in a nearby cemetery!

The tragedy happened on Thursday in the Vaal, south of Joburg.

Sebokeng police spokesman Captain Teboho Lephoto said the incident started at the Usave store in Sebokeng zone 17, where the woman worked.

Witnesses said that the man showed up there and fired shots while he was dragging the woman to his car at gunpoint.

Police were alerted and a task team searched through the evening and into the night, but they suspended the search until the next day. Meanwhile, cemetery staff in Vanderbijlpark arrived at the graveyard on Friday morning and spotted a car parked under a tree.

One of the cemetery staffers said he was shocked when he saw a car in the graveyard that early.

“I knew something was wrong,” said the worker.

At first cemetery workers thought the car might have been stolen – until he looked inside it.

“I peeped through the window and I saw two dead people,” the man said. “That is when I called the cops.”

Vanderbijlpark police alerted the Sebokeng cop shop.

Lephoto said: “Police and pathologists have attended the scene.”

Cases of kidnapping and murder were opened, as well as an inquest.

“We do not know who shot who at this moment. Both had gunshot wounds,” he said.

FG Re-instates CRK and IRK as Independent Subjects

The grouping of IRK and CRK under the Civil Education in the new curriculum by the NERDC which had generated controversy has been reversed.

File Photo

The Federal Government on Thursday bowed to pressure and directed the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) to separate the Christian Religious Knowledge and Islamic Religious Knowledge subjects in the basic education curriculum.

The grouping of IRK and CRK under the Civil Education in the new curriculum by the NERDC had generated controversy in the last few months with religious leaders calling for their separate teaching.

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, gave the directive at a meeting of Ministers of Education with education stakeholders from six geo-political zones and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja on Thursday.

The meeting, which was attended by Commissioners for Education from various States of the Federation, was part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the partnership within the three tiers of government in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals 4 (SDG4).

Adamu, who was represented by Minister of State for Education, Anthony Anwukah, said the directive to separate the subjects became necessary because of the various complaints by Nigerians, especially the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that has been vociferous about the issue.

He explained that the collapse of the two subjects was done by former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to reduce the number of subjects offered by pupils and students in schools.

The minister said: “There is this controversy over the merger of CRK and IRK in the school curriculum. There were complaints by parents that children were overloaded with so many subjects and the recommendation then was to merge one or two subjects. Unfortunately, water and oil were merged together and it is not working.

“So, to save ourselves the agony, the two subjects should be separated. We push that to the NERDC,”

Adamu, in his address, reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to revamping the education sector and appealed to state governments as well as relevant stakeholders to support the federal government effort.

He also expressed the commitment of the government towards achieving the SDG4 by 2030 in line with the global timeline. The minister said Nigeria has selected the Goal 4 of the SDGs, which emphasizes inclusive and quality education for all and promotion of lifelong learning, for implementation in view of the importance of education as a fulcrum to national development.

He said the federal government was aware that in the journey towards achieving the Education 2030 Agenda, key issues including the phenomenon of out-of-school children, insecurity in and around the schools and infrastructure decay must be addressed.

The minister said there was also the need to have credible and reliable data, and how to address the challenge of poor teacher quality as well as teacher gaps, low carrying capacity in tertiary institutions, and poor learning outcomes.

“We recognize that the task of revamping the education sector is challenging, the ministry of education cannot do it alone. Our task is to coordinate national efforts to meet our national goals and objectives.

“It is our believe that with good planning, appropriate investment of resources, transparency, due process, effective collaboration and coordination of inputs and activities of government and that of all stakeholders, we will realize our vision of providing quality education to build and sustain adequate human capital for national development,” the minister added.

Jose Mourinho admitted Chelsea's move for the Spain international was "obvious" after Manchester United signed Romelu Lukaku despite previously being close to a deal for Morata.

Former Juventus forward Morata insists he is delighted to be joining Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, while remaining coy on how near he came to a switch to Old Trafford.

"This is the best club," Morata, speaking exclusively to Sky Sports News reporter Paul Gilmour upon arrival in London, said.

"Antonio Conte is one of the best coaches in the world and I'm so happy to work with Antonio."

Asked how close he came to joining Manchester United, Morata said: "I don't know, the most important thing is I'm here playing for Chelsea. Finally I'm here."

Morata boasted the best goals-per-minute record of any Real Madrid player in La Liga last season, with only Barcelona's Lionel Messi managing to better his 15 goals at a rate of one every 89 minutes.

The departing Real striker is confident he will be able to settle in to life in the Premier League though after speaking with international team-mate Cesar Azpilicueta.

"[It's] One of the best leagues in the world and I'm so happy to be here," Morata added, confirming a medical is the only hurdle left before completing his move to Chelsea.

"I spoke with Azpilicueta and he told me everything is OK and he found it something easy."

PSG manager, Unai Emery speaks on possibility of Neymar’s arrival

Neymar jr
Emery said this as rumours linking the Brazilian with the French giants intensified in recent days.

Why Cech ordered Arsenal players not to celebrate winning ICC trophy

Arsenal goalkeeper, Petr Cech, told his team-mates not to celebrate winning the International Champions Cup (ICC) trophy in Shanghai, because it is not the “big one.”

In a video clip that has gone viral, the former Chelsea stopper was seen telling the others to be calm as the trophy was presented.

“This is not the trophy we lift, guys,” Cech could be heard telling them.

“This is not the trophy we lift. Let’s lift the big one at the end of the season. Not this one!”

Alex Iwobi came off the bench to score the equalizer with virtually the last kick of the game, as Arsenal held Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday, in their first match at the International Champions.

The Bundesliga champions dominated the game from start to finish and took an early lead through Robert Lewandowski’s penalty.

Alexandre Lacazette almost levelled in the first half, as Bayern found it difficult to get past Cech in goal for the Gunners again.

After Iwobi’s last-ditch goal, the match was decided on penalties.

Emi Martinez, who replaced Cech, proved to be the hero for Arsene Wenger’s men, as David Alaba, Juan Bernat and Renato Sanches all missed from 12 yeards out.

Arsenal triumphed 3-2.

Evans  the kidnapper
Hearing has been further adjourned till July 27, 2017 in the N300m fundamental rights enforcement suit filed against the Inspector-General of Police by suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, Punch newspaper reports.

Justice Chuka Obiozor declined entertaining the case on Thursday on the basis that Evans’ lawyer, Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje, had yet to pay the punitive cost of N20,000 awarded against him at the last adjourned date.

Justice Abdulaziz Anka, who awarded the punitive cost against Ogungbeje on July 13, had said the lawyer would not be given audience in court until he paid the N20,000 to the police.

On Thursday, counsel for the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Effiong Asuquo, noted that Ogungbeje gave him a post-dated cheque for N20,000 but he rejected it, saying that was not the order of court.

Justice Obiozor agreed with the police lawyer and directed Ogungbeje to comply with the cost order on the cost awarded against him.

The judge also directed Ogungbeje to ensure service of the application on the Inspector-General of Police in Abuja.

He, subsequently, adjourned the case till July 27.

How 'Evil' Abuja Taxi Driver Killed an Ex-ambassador, Steal and Sold His Car

The gallant operatives of Nigerian Police force in the federal capital, Abuja have tracked down and arrested a taxi driver who murdered a former Nigerian ambassador.

The suspect and the victim's car
A taxi driver identified as Sikiru Lamidi, who allegedly murdered a former Nigerian ambassador to South Africa, Ngam Nwachukwu, on November 24, last year, has finally been apprehended by detectives from Apo Divisional Police Station in Abuja.

According to a report by Punch newspaper, the suspect from Oyo town in Oyo State, was caught last week by the investigators at his home town where he was hiding after selling Nwachukwu’s Lexus SUV.

It was learnt that the 75-year-old deceased, had chartered the suspect’s cab on November 23, 2016 and in the course of taking him around informed him about his car which had a mechanical fault.

Lamidi was said to have offered to take the ex-envoy to his brother, a mechanic, who could work on the car and it was decided that Lamidi would come to the ex-ambassador’s house the following day.

He reportedly showed up at the ex-envoy’s residence at Villa Nova Estate, Apo the following day as agreed. The deceased lived alone, and his security guard, who doubled as an electrician, was also not in the house during Lamidi’s visit.

Investigators stated that Nwachukwu offered the driver some food but he declined while sitting across from him at the dining table.

“As the man was eating, the suspect pounced on him and wrestled him to the floor and then stabbed him in the neck with a pair of scissors. He stole the plasma television and home theatre in the apartment and went away with the deceased’s Lexus SUV which he sold for N1.480m to one Femi Adeyemi with forged documents,” an investigator said.

Lamidi told our correspondent on Thursday at the Apo Divisional Police Station that he did not know what came over him, adding that he just found himself stabbing the septuagenarian until he died.

“After stabbing the man, I felt terrible and guilty but there was nothing I could do to reverse the situation,” he said.

After killing Nwachukwu, the suspect explained that he sold the TV and home theatre audio system to a seller of fairly-used products at Area 10, Abuja for N38,000.

He said that he kept the SUV in Sauka Village along Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road for two weeks before driving it to Oyo town.

The taxi driver said he gave the vehicle to one Okuta who assisted him in forging the vehicle documents, adding that he compensated Okuta with N380,000 after selling the vehicle.

“Out of the remaining N1.1m, I bought a motorcycle for N180,000 and invested N500,000 in a cooperative society; I gave a car dealer N500,000 to assist me in getting a car, but he defrauded me and didn’t provide any vehicle,”Lamidi explained.

When asked if he had committed similar crimes before, the suspect denied, saying it was his first time.  “I have not committed any crime before; I blame the devil for this. Sometimes, I entertain negative or diabolical thoughts, but I don’t smoke or drink,” he added.

I'd Get My B00bs Done Immediately I Win a Lottery - Gov. Fayose's Sister, Mo, Talks Self Confidence (Video)

The younger sister of Ekiti state governor had a broadcasted a live video on her Facebook page yesterday where she discussed with self confidence and insecurities women face about their bodies.

Mo Fayose
In a video session which was held live in her Facebook page on Wednesday, Mo Fayose, the younger sister of Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, discussed with her followers about insecurities some women suffer about their breast sizes.

She revealed that after she had her baby prematurely some years ago, she lost confidence in her boobs and still has little or no confidence in them, adding that if she wins a lottery now, the first thing she would do is a boobs lifting surgery.

Speaking further, Mo says women with boobs they don't like have low self esteem and tend to hide it when they get intimate with their lovers. She says when she wants to get intimate with any man, she has to turn off the light just because she feels insecure about her boobs. She advised women to do whatever they can to ensure they have confidence about their body.

"I lost my self confidence just because of the size of my breast and I struggled with that for many many years. I had my first child about 18 years ago. She was premature and she came very very early. She was in intensive unit for sometime and as a result of that, I had to express breast milk.

"It was really difficult. It was pretty hard. I was approached by the nurses who asked me if I am willing to donate breast milk. So I said yes I can donate breast me so they gave me this machine that looks very industrial. You connect your boobies to and you express milk.

"I expressed milk for like three months and I was donating 6 liters of breast milk a week. So they would come to my house to pick up the breast milk and take it to the disadvantaged children or children that their mothers are unable to express breast milk. Before that time, I wasn't the type that would go for bras because my breast were that on point.

"I was wearing bra only when I wanted to because my breasts were onpoint. I could flaunt them in front of my husband at that time because they were so good and I liked the way my boobies were. They were looking straight. Unfortunately now, they are looking down. They have missed the plug. I didn't like that and I still don't like it.

"Its not that I don't like it, its about how I feel when I am with a man. I tell people that when I win a lottery, the first thing I am going to do is to do something to are these my boobies. They have got to be done. They have got to be lifted up without bras," she said.

Quarrel over menstrual pad breaks 13-year-old marriage

Couple took to court to dissolve marriage of 13-year, over the seizure of menstrual pad by husband.

A housewife, Kafayat Akinade, has approached a Grade C Customary Court at Agodi, Ibadan, to seek dissolution of her 13-year-old marriage over seizure of her monthly menstrual pad by her husband.

Akinade told the court that her husband, Muideen Akinade, was in the habit of picking her menstrual pads for unknown reason.

She also accused the husband of brutality, saying that he had turned her to a punching bag and a slave in her matrimonial home.

“I live like a slave in my husband’s house without proper care; I shouldered the responsibility of our three children and never experienced happiness since I married him.

“I left his house seven months ago when I sensed that my life was in danger, but he did not bother to beg me to return, instead, he cursed my mother and threatened to kill me with charm.

“I pray the court to dissolve the marriage so that I can have peace of mind, the court should also order him to be responsible for the upkeep of the three kids, ’’she pleaded.

The woman threatened to kill herself if the court declines her request, adding that she had made up her mind to end the union.

In his defence, Akinade denied all the allegations, but accused the wife of adultery, alleging that one of his apprentices slept with her when he travelled.

He, however, did not agree with the dissolution of the marriage and appealed to the court to settle the matter.

The president of the court, Chief Mukaila Balogun, said the evidences of parties had shown that there was no more love in the union.

He dissolved the marriage and ordered the man to take custody of the first child, while the second and third children should remain in the custody of their mother.

He also directed the respondent to pay N7,000 monthly allowance for the up keep of the two children.

Young Nigerian Billionaire Roped in the Alleged Swindle of $1.7bn from Federal Government

A young Nigerian billionaire who reportedly partook in the swindling of the sum of $1.7billion from the Federal Government has been revealed.

 Nigerian billionaire, Igho Sanomi
Court documents filed in Houston by the US Justice Department in the assets forfeiture proceedings filed against Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke and Messrs.Kola Aluko and Jide Omokore have revealed the third man in the $1.7billion swindle of Nigeria.

He is Igho Sanomi, one of Nigeria’s young billionaires, who owns the Taleveras Oil Group.

Taleveras, along with oil traders Arcadia and Glencore, were found to have paid $1.2 billion into Kola Aluko’s account in Switzerland . This money was used to fund Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke’s luxury lifestyle. But in a statement Wednesday,  Taleveras said its involvement in the alleged dubious transaction followed best international practices,as a third party.

“This legal case is not against Taleveras or Igho Sanomi.

“As it relates to the US department case against Atlantic Drilling, please note that Taleveras and the other two major oil trading houses (Glencore and Arcadia) were not faulted for embarking on a legitimate transaction, as all payments were made based on legitimate third party contracts with private companies and not NNPC,” the company said.

Deziani, as oil minister between 2010 and 2015, used her influence to facilitate inappropriate business opportunities for Aluko and Omokore by assigning to their companies, Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts (AEDC) Limited and Atlantic Energy Brass Development (AEBD) Limited, eight oil mining leases (OMLs).

The OMLs were assigned under Strategic Alliance Agreements (SAAs) with the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Despite lacking the technical expertise and financial capacity to operate the OMLs, as noted in a February 2014 report of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mrs. Alison-Madueke greenlighted the process for her cronies.

What followed, said US prosecutors, was the sale by AEDC and AEBD of the oil-lifting allocations they were assigned under the Forcados and Brass SAAs to third-party oil trading companies. They made tonnes of money, by not fulfilling the obligations stated in the agreements, using some of it to bribe Mrs. Alison-Madueke.

Court papers show that Taleveras Group, one of the third-party oil trading companies, paid copious sums into Mr. Aluko’s personal accounts.

The stream of payments, prosecutors observed, began shortly after the award of the Forcados SAAs. Over a period of six months, Mr. Aluko received the sum of $15million in his personal account domiciled at LGT Bank (Schweiz) AG in Switzerland (the “LGT -090038 Account”), from which various purchases for Mrs. Alison-Madueke were funded. The money came from Taleveras Group and its affiliates, including Taleveras Trading Limited and and Taleveras Petroleum Trading BV.

On July 12, 2011, prosecutors found that the sum of $1.5million was wired from Taleveras to Mr. Aluko’s account. Two days later, the sum of $1million also arrived the account from RFB Lengard JVA in which Mr. Igho Sanomi, founder and chairman of Taleveras, owns 30 per cent stake. Another $1million arrived on July 20, 2011, from Taleveras Trading Limited. This was followed on 15 August 2011 by $1million wired by Taleveras to Mr. Aluko’s account in Switzerland as payment for a Joint Venture contract with RFB Lengard. The same day, he received $650,000 from the same source.

On September 12, 2011, Taleveras Trading Limited paid $1million and $1.6million four days later. On 5 October of the same year, Mr. Aluko’s account was credited with $1.5million by Taleveras Petroleum Trading BV and $500,000 six days later. The next batch of cash arrived on 14 November 2011, when his account received $2million wired by Taleveras Group. On January 3 and 10 2012, $600,000 and $1million respectively were paid by Taleveras Petroleum Trading BV.

Prosecutors reckoned that the payments were made to Mr. Aluko in return for assigning the AEDC’s rights to Taleveras and RFB Lengard to lift oil under the corruptly acquired SAAs.

They discovered that each of the transactions was subsequently transferred into and out of correspondent bank accounts at a financial institution, which processes its U.S. dollar wire transactions through Newark, New Jersey.

According to prosecutors, AEDC entered into an agreement with the Arcadia Group and its subsidiaries, from which AEDC purportedly took loans. In return, Arcadia was repaid with assignments of AEDC’s crude oil liftings under the dodgy SAAs. The company describes itself as a “global commodity trading firm covering oil, agricultural, gas and power markets”.

“In particular, two months after the last payment from Taleveras, Arcadia Energy (Suisse) SA and Arcadia Petroleum Limited began making payments to an account held in the name of AEH at LGT Bank (Schweiz) AG ending in -108031 (the LGT -108031 Account),” said prosecutors.

On April 18, 2012, Arcadia paid $10million into the above stated account. On May 14 of the same year, it paid $1.3million and on July 23,

$2.4million. On July 24, 2012, the company paid $1.3million into the same account. Less than a month later, it paid $2.9million into the same account and followed it up with a whopping $25million September 17, 2012.

The next day, it paid $2.091million into the same account. This preceded a hefty transfer of $23.4million on January 8, 2013. A couple of days later, Arcadia paid $1.6million and on February 4, 2013, wired $2million to the account. This was followed by the payment of $1.1million, $6million and $1.7million respectively.

The stunt continued with payments to a company, Glencore, by AEBD, which sold to Glencore over 7million barrels of crude oil acquired through the Brass SAA. Glencore’s payments for these allotments, said prosecutors, were made to an account in the name of AEBD ending in 184001 at Deutsche Bank (Suisse) SA and an account ending in -630350 in the name of AEBD at Standard Chartered Bank, London.

They were also made into accounts in the name of AEBD ending in 677644 at Standard Chartered Bank, London; and 9941 at Stanbic IBTC, Nigeria.

Glencore, for example, paid $83.6million to AEBD on April 5, 2013; $80.5million, $79.4million on July 4, $19.8million July 17, $19.5million on July 19 and $83.4million on July 21.

*Taleveras full statement:

The attention of Taleveras legal team have been drawn to online publications related with a case against Atlantic Drilling Fluids. This legal case is not against Taleveras or Igho Sanomi.

Some of these publications are misleading, grossly inaccurate, it is thus proper to set the record straight.

One of Taleveras core activities since 2000, is sourcing, trading and engaging in third party contracts, inclusive of oil and gas upstream operations. Taleveras due to its capacity, trading expertise and financial strength, continues to source and engage in procuring third party oil contracts.

Taleveras performs on these contracts handling the physical delivery, risk management and logistics from start point to its numerous first class end users and major refiners. This process involves verification of the contracts with the issuing authority to authenticate and further compliance with our lending banks internal due diligence processes. This is no different from International Trading Standards performed by the numerous international and major oil and gas companies operating in Nigeria.

As it relates to the US department case against Atlantic Drilling, please note that Taleveras and the other two major oil trading houses (Glencore and Arcadia) were not faulted for embarking on a legitimate transaction, as all payments were made based on legitimate third party contracts with private companies and not NNPC.

This is indeed compared to a buyer of a property who embarks on verification of property title documents with the issuing authority and upon verification, goes into a sales contract and then makes contractual payment to the seller. The Buyer certainly has no business in whatever the seller does with his proceeds from the sale.

In concluding, the ultimate aim of contracting is to off-take crude oil from asset productions. It is worthy to note that neither Taleveras nor its associated companies lifted any oil from this production through Atlantic. Terms of the agreement were breached and hence a legal dispute and appropriate filings made in respected court of jurisdiction.

We will thus refrain from making further comments.

Story of 70-yr-old widow caught sleeping with 30-yr-old man takes a new twist

A 70-year-old widow, Mrs. Maria Okoh, caught having sex with a 30-year-old man in Amauzu Nkpoghoro village in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was fined three goats after being paraded round the village to appease the land.

It was gathered that the septuagenarian was caught in the act by one of her grandchildren, who had gone to give her food in her late husband’s house. The granddaughter reportedly went straight to her grandmother’s room with the food items only to meet her on the bed stack naked making love with a young man in his early 30’s.

According to Vanguard, the grand-daughter reportedly raised the alarm seeing what is described as an abominable act in the community; a source added that she immediately reported the matter to the elders, who in turn alerted youths of the village.

The source said the villagers immediately dragged the widow and her lover out of the house, where they were hiding, and paraded round the community, chanting disgraceful songs behind them as punishment for their atrocious act.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, added that the punishment meted out to the two lovers was the worst punishment anyone could go through in Afikpo land.

He said the woman would have faced a greater punishment if her husband was still alive. The source, however, revealed that the act has brought shame to the widow’s family, adding that she was among the most respected women in the community before the incident.

It was gathered that according to the community’s custom, the woman will give three goats as fine after being paraded round the village to appease the land.

A trigger-happy policeman who reportedly shot dead a trailer driver along Burma road, Apapa on Wednesday has been arrested by the police.

The incident led to a breakdown of law and order resulting in the burning of two banks in the area.

Also, 18 suspected hoodlums who allegedly caused mayhem in the area following the killing have also been apprehended. Speaking on the incident, Police spokesperson, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the hoodlums took the law into their hands.
“The caller said hoodlums were trying to take laws into their hands by setting the bank ablaze following the shooting of a tank driver by a policeman attached to the bank during an altercation.
"Operatives of the command including the area commander, Apapa, the Rapid Response Squad, and other security agents quickly rushed to the scene to take charge of the situation.

“The state commissioner of police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, was also present at the scene of the incident.

“If not for the quick intervention of the police, the hoodlums would have wrecked more havoc as they destroyed private properties and valuables.
“A mob had gathered in front of the bank demanding that the trigger-happy policeman be released to them, but the bank refused, leading to the arson and further attack on another bank’s branch located on Wharf road.
“The fire at the banks was put out by the police and other security agencies as the tanker driver, identified as Azeez was rushed immediately to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

Famous-Cole added that the driver was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital. His words: “Contrary to reports making the rounds, only one tanker driver was shot.

“The policeman has been arrested and will be charged to court immediately, the 18 suspected hoodlums also arrested are also undergoing investigations.

“The command would like to address the members of the public on impunity and jungle justice in the state.

“We are no longer going to tolerate the act of lawlessness and impunity by members of the public.”

Arsenal Finally Letting Alexis Sanchez Leave? Here's Wenger's Latest Update on the Player

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger has revealed that the London-based football club have taken a decision whether or not to sell Alexis Sanchez this summer and promised to stick to it.

Sanchez, Wenger
Arsene Wenger is insistent that Arsenal won’t be selling Alexis Sanchez amid persistent speculation that the forward will be joining Manchester City this summer.

Sanchez admitted last month that a decision had been made on his future as he alluded to an imminent departure from the Emirates, and more recently, the Chilean made clear his desire to play in the Champions League and revealed that he was waiting for Arsenal to make a decision on his future.

But speaking ahead of his side’s pre-season friendly with Bayern Munich, Wenger stressed that the club have now made the decision not to sell their prized possession.

“The decision has been made and we will stick to that,” the Frenchman said. “The decision is not to sell.”

Wenger also appeared to take issue with Sanchez’s remarks regarding the Champions League, and challenged the 28-year-old to help Arsenal return to Europe’s elite competition.

“I don’t give too much importance to things that are translated, you know,” he added. “The whole interview that I got didn’t really mean that.

“The main focus for us is to concentrate on the Premier League and the Premier League for me today is more important than the Champions League.

“We rested sometimes players in the Group stages of the Champions League for the Premier League so that’s become the biggest importance for us.

“For the rest… we played 20 years in the Champions League, that’s 17 years before Sanchez arrived and three years with him so he can get us back in there.”

Wenger, who admitted he has not spoken to Sanchez since his most recent interview in Chile, equally sought to downplay similarities between the forward’s current circumstances and when Arsenal sold Robin van Persie to Manchester United for £24m.

“Every case is different, Van Persie was going from 30 to 31, when he left he had one year on his contract. Sanchez is younger.”

Sanchez was the Gunners’ shining star in a disappointing campaign last season where they finished fifth and failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in Wenger’s reign.

The forward has made it clear that he is not willing to wait another year to return to European football’s premier club competition.

"I want to play in the Champions League,” he told reporters in his native Chile. "The decision isn't down to me, I need to wait for Arsenal.”

Many Lives Saved as Nigerian Army 'Neutralises' Four Suicide Bombers In Three Days

The Nigerian army has neutralized many suicide bomb attempts in the troubled state of Borno, saving several lives in the process.

The Nigerian Army says its troops in Borno have intercepted and neutralised no fewer than four suspected suicide bombers between Sunday and Tuesday, Premium Times reports.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Sani Usman, said in a statement on Wednesday that one of the bombers was intercepted at Dala as he attempted to cross through troops’ “forward defences.’’

“Upon several challenges and warning shots the suspect refused to halt.
“The suspect who still continued to approach towards the troops’ location was immediately neutralized,” Mr. Usman, a brigadier general, said.

He added that two female suicide bombers were also intercepted and neutralized at Mammanti as they tried to infiltrate and attack the village through troops’ parapet.

“Similarly, the troops of 251 Battalion also intercepted another female Boko Haram terrorist suicide bomber on Monday 17th July 2017 at about 1.49 am between Cimari and No Man’s Land.
“These great efforts of the troops helped to save valuable lives and property,” he said.

The army spokesman appealed to the public to volunteer information to the military and other security agencies to pre-empt suicide bombings and other atrocities by remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.

Use of suicide bombers is one of the major strategies of the Boko Haram whose insurgency has caused about 100,000 deaths since 2009.

The insurgents are still able to carry out attacks despite losing most of the territory they once controlled to Nigerian military.
